Just The Facts!

Giraffes are a very distinctive and interesting animal! They can grow up to 17 feet for females and 19 feet for males. Though you might not believe it, giraffes can eat up to 75 pounds of food per day. They grab their food, which mainly consists of Acacia leaves, with their tongue that is as long as 18 inches! Giraffes have very long legs that allow them to run away from lions, the one animal willing to try and take down a 18 foot giant. To be able to run that fast, the giraffes heart works hard to keep blood flowing and keep the giraffe alive. The giraffes heart is about 2 feet long, and weighs about 25 pounds. Their heart also pumps around 16 gallons of blood per minute, compared to the human, 5 quarts.
